An advanced training series developed at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) aims to strengthen AI skills at universities: As part of the project "State-wide advanced training series 'Artificial Intelligence in University Teaching' (FO>KI)", teachers, support staff, course developers, university management and students can acquire practical knowledge and basics on the use of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.
For their concept, Svenja Geißler from the Center for Media Learning at KIT and Dr. Matthias Bandtel from the Higher Education Network Digitalization of Teaching Baden-Württemberg (HND-BW) will receive a fellowship for digital university teaching in Baden-Württemberg, which is endowed with 50,000 euros and awarded by the Stifterverband and the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg.
FO>KI aims to comprehensively prepare participants for the use of AI in university teaching. The main topics of didactics, infrastructures, curriculum development, university strategies, law and ethics are covered in 30 different formats. The program consists of:
- Face-to-face events at different universities
- Online workshops
- Collegial case discussions
- Digital self-study courses
Special attention is paid to knowledge transfer. The project specifically addresses multipliers who pass on the skills they have acquired at their universities and thus contribute to the dissemination and further development of AI skills.
The training series is continuously monitored to ensure the quality and relevance of the formats and to adapt them to new requirements. The aim is to create a long-term, sustainable training system that optimally prepares universities for the challenges and potential of artificial intelligence.
